Hello, all of you - my name is Cathode and welcome to the signups for the VGMGG Objective Game (title pending)! I'm going to be hosting this game with Superb and a few other key individuals! Let's have a brief Q&A before I send you the signup form.
Q: What is Objective?
A: From experience, it's basically a cross between DND and LARPing. It has its origins in online Mafia games - and if you'd like to think of it that way, this list is kind of a pseudosequel to VGMGG Mafia. The game is titled Objective because of its core conceit - you play as a character (fictional or otherwise), and you have at least one objective that you must complete. Roleplay is encouraged, but optional - think that one minigame in Maruo Party where everyone roleplayed as Wario - for you VGMGG players who were around for that.
Q: How do I sign up?
A: I'll explain more about this at the bottom, but - for every Objective game that's hosted there's usually a character criteria. This could be 'characters that start with the letter L', 'robots', or 'characters that are derived from a song'.
Additionally, typically - you have to send in a personal objective. Remember when I talked about accomplishing an objective earlier? This is when you determine what that objective is. It could be anything from "eat food" to "get a girlfriend" to "get to the highest point in the map." As a warning - the personal objective could be tweaked by the GMs in order for it to fit with other players' objectives.
Once you've signed up - at some point before the game begins, you'll be given a role DM. This states your objective(s), as well as any abilities you might have - special powers only your character has.
Q: OK, so I've signed up now. How do I play?
A: An Objective game is split up into phases. Every phase, you can do a move action and a do action. In order to send an action, you must send it to MysteryBot via DMs - and if you're wondering where they are, MysteryBot is on the server which was made for this game.
Q: What's moving?
A: Move actions involve moving to another area - there's three types of these.
A standard !move action lets you move between any predefined area to area connection in the game at the end of the phase. If there's an area called Bob's House, and it says you can go to Maruo's House - then you can "!move maruo", unless we made a clerical error.
A !movespecial lets you type in a custom way to move. Do you want to go in that locked door that hasn't been listed? Then type "!movespecial enter the locked door", and Superb and I will resolve it in a way that makes sense.
Finally, there's !moveinstant. It's meant for subareas - closets, or airlocks. !moveinstant allows you to move in the middle of a phase to this subarea. You could "!moveinstant basement" while you're in a room with an easily accessible basement, for example.
There's also the !where command, which allows you to see where you can !move. It comes in handy if you're ever lost.
Q: What's !do?
A: A !do action, like !movespecial is freeform. You can send any action you want. Do you want to punch someone in the face? Go ahead! However... the success of any action depends on the roll you get from MysteryBot.
Q: Is there anything else?
A: Spying is a function that exists - to use it, type !spy and an area as a command to MysteryBot. It gives you access to a spying channel - an imperfect copy of the area - the next phase. Not everyone can spy - it depends on their ability. Spying can be done at any time.
EarBot allows you access to the vault. By DMing EarBot, you can tell it all your secrets and thought about the game; and then they're uncovered at the end. EarBot isn't tied to phases or limited in any way.
This specific game will handle songs much like VGMGG Mafia did - there'll be parts of the game where you can guess, and parts of the game where you explicitly can't.
